The world's largest furniture trade fair took place in Milan last week. The 'Salone del Mobile' literally takes over the city with thousands of exhibitors and visitors attempting to see the latest from international brands as well as spot the next big thing from up and coming designers.

Louis Vuitton has collaborated with key designers for it's collection 'Objet Nomades', expanding it's range aimed at the more well-heeled global traveller amongst us. We absolutely adore the swinging hammock chair by Patricia Urquiola below (can imagine you would need it after a day at Milan) and love the charm of the petal leather chair and table above by Raw Edges.

The collection is a contemporary nod to the heritage of the iconic Vuitton luggage, the premise is that the collection is portable and will be produced as limited edition pieces or prototypes.

The Dutch powerhouse brand Moooi launched a new division 'Moooi Carpets' at Milan this year specialising in being able to produce the most amazingly photo-realistic prints on carpets and rugs.

Across three different ranges, the new technology will enable you to produce your own design, tweak one of Moooi's or buy one of the 'signature' prints designed in collaboration with renowned designers and artists such as Marcel Wanders (the rugs below).

The lighting collections shown in Milan are always a bit of a highlight for us, and London designer Lee Broom had an innovative approach to showcase his range - choosing to transform disused shops into 'The Department Store' - where traditional retail props were used to create sets incorporating his products. The resulting show was named as one of the 15 best shows at Milan.

This leads us to mention that it's not just the products that are on show in Milan - with it's stunning architecture the actual spaces themselves are often a significant part of the bringing the brands to life and create a highly theatrical element.

A mirrored floor in the courtyard of the cloistered Chiostro Minore di San Simpliciano is an inspired design element to highlight the Danish Mindcraft exhibition based on the theme 'In Between'. Mindcraft showcases new Danish craft and design and was the recipient of the Milano Design Award -Special Mention “For the extraordinary visual impact, generated from an essential but courageous project, that creates a dialogue in harmony with the unique and suggestive context".

It is no secret that we are huge wallpaper fans and so we were most excited to find out about the collaboration below between the New York studio 'Calico' with Dutch design team BCXSY.

The exhibition called 'Inverted Spaces' combines Calico Wallpaper which was inspired by Hubble Telescope images from NASA with the furniture from BCXSY.

Bathroom design has really erupted in recent years and this year Norm Architectslaunched their take on this for Italian bathroom manufacture Ex.T. Inspired by a strictly minimalist ethos, they strive to design products "where there is nothing more to add or take away in order to make the product better."

It is refreshing to see how this pared back design could add a really beautiful and sculptural element to the bathroom where traditionally quite solid and heavy vanities and baths usually exist.

We love a good chair so it seems fitting to finish with one, and The Frame Chair a collaboration between Notion and Mourne Textiles caught our eye. Part of an exhibition 'Liminal - Irish Design at the Threshold' celebrating Irish Design in 2015 it brings to attention many designers who otherwise wouldn't be able to exhibit at Salone del Milan.

Whilst you expect great things from the established global brands, it is so exciting to discover those designers who are on the cusp of greatness! We'd love to hear from you if you know any creatives out there who deserve to be highlighted......let us know!
